Everything we do at Glasgow Life is underpinned by our 5 CLEAR values.

C - Customer Focus

Keeping existing customers and attracting new ones by delivering quality, relevant services is paramount to Glasgow Life's success. We always listen, understand and are polite with our customers and appreciate the diversity of those who use our services.

L - Learning

To develop Glasgow Life, we value learning and creativity and always ask are we doing the right thing and then are we doing things right when delivering services.

E - Environmentally Responsible

The environment is important to everyone's health, well-being and enjoyment. We take responsibility for saving energy, recycling and seizing opportunities to make Glasgow Life green.

A - Achievement

Staff are our most valuable asset. We recognise and celebrate our achievements and are proud of Glasgow Life's contribution to Glasgow's success.

R - Respect

Integrity is key to the way we work as Glasgow Life. We are always open, transparent and we respect and listen to others in everything we do.


We are not all the same. We need different things, but we all rightly want and expect great public services. The size, scale and complexity of what we do means that what we do and how we do it has a big effect on the people that use our service and the organisations with whom we work. That’s why we our approach to equalities and diversity needs to be fundamental to everything we do. It’s not an add-on.

It’s the right thing to do. It’s the law. It makes business-sense.

But most of all, we know that being a diverse organisation makes us better, as an employer and a service provider.

We need to ensure our workforce represents the diversity of the city and our services are accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Glasgow Life, as an ALEO of Glasgow City Council, offers its LGBTI+ employees, or indeed anyone with an interest in supporting LGBTI+ colleagues, regular network opportunities to get together and to discuss relevant topics, share their ideas, insights and experiences.


Glasgow Life is engaged with the Carer Positive scheme. The attainment of this award demonstrates Glasgow Life’s ongoing commitment to supporting its staff and in particular those who also find themselves with caring responsibilities in their own personal home-life.

Glasgow Life recognises that the balancing of both work and caring responsibilities can be challenging and has therefore implemented a number of employment policies and initiatives to provide support to those employees who find themselves with such circumstances.


At Glasgow Life we are committed to embedding equality across all of the work which we do, both in relation to the services we provide and the staff teams that provide them. We recognise that BAME staff are under-represented in the workplace and are therefore committed to attracting an increase of staff from minority ethnic groups. A focus group exists to address this under-representation.

At Glasgow Life we have a strong focus on recruitment and retention but we also aim to support and encourage more BAME colleagues to develop their careers within Glasgow Life and to let Black Asian Minority Ethnics in the wider community know that Glasgow Life is a great place to work.

Glasgow Life has a demonstrated commitment to being disability confident. We believe there should be no barrier that prevents our people from being a part of our business. This ethos extends to our customer promise in regards to the services we deliver throughout the city.

Our efforts have culminated in Glasgow Life’s venues being registered on Euan’s Guide, a disabled access review website that aims to ‘remove the fear of the unknown’ and inspire people to try new places.


Our annual Staff Awards and Ceremony provides an excellent opportunity for colleagues to get together and celebrate our successes. Staff are nominated by their peers across eight award categories to recognise their outstanding contribution to Glasgow Life.
