During his lifetime Sir William Burrell (1861–1958) collected over 200 tapestries. The collection, regarded as internationally significant, includes majestic French and South Netherlandish tapestries commissioned by kings, princes and bishops as well as smaller domestic tapestries woven in Germany and England for the emerging wealthy merchant classes.  Many adorned the walls of Sir William’s homes, whilst others were lent to exhibitions, museums and cathedrals throughout Britain.  This exhibition showcases nine works from the 14 – 17 centuries, including two works from the Glasgow International Exhibition, 1901, at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.
